The Distance 9’ #5 is a lovely stream rod that just oozes tight loops and great short casting ability. Despite its distance tag, this rod is a creek fishers dream, laying out wonderful casts with as little as nine foot of fly line out. Any closer and you could spear the trout! It has the strength to pick up 25 feet of line out of a tumbling stream, and the delicacy to present a small dry fly to a gentle sipper. Take it to a lake and with a little skill in timing you can put the whole line out, although beginning casters are better advised to simply concentrate on the basics of getting a straight line to land softly.

The Distance 9’ #6/7 is a magnificent all rounder, as well as being a great first fly rod. It is a great stream rod when fitted with a #6 line. The lighter line enables a delicate presentation, as well as allowing the rod to manipulate line on the surface with ease. The excellent balance of a light blank and a faster action makes restricted area casts such as the roll cast so easy. By fitting a #7 line it transforms into a very good lake rod. The heavier line helps turn over bulky flies, as well as dealing with the ever-present wind. It excels as a searching tool with a team of wet flies, or for flicking a dry around the shoreline on a balmy summers evening.

The Distance 9’ #6 four piece is perfect for the travelling angler- either in airplanes or on foot. With modern graphite rod technology there is no discernable difference between 2 and 4 piece rods, so anglers shouldn’t worry about any four piece action being suspect. This rod has all the usual traits of Innovator rods- a lovely crisp style that produces tight loops and high line speeds for the experienced caster, and controlled and predictable casting for those still either learning. This rod will suit the angler who likes to walk in search of their Trout.

For heavy-duty freshwater fly-fishing and for light salt-water fly-fishing, the Distance 9’ 8/9 is excellent. This rod isn’t called the distance for nothing; it pelts out the full fly line with great power and speed. For anglers who vary their adventures from deep lakes to salt water, this rod offers versatility and value.
